Structural Steel/Misc. Metals Steel Detailer-Checker

*Must be a US Citizen and work in the office/no remote option
*CAD/Tekla/SDS or similar software experience

Steel detailer turns architectural and engineering designs into exact 3D models, fabrication shop drawings, and erection plans for manufacturing and construction. 
Key Responsibilities

• Create 3D Models: Build virtual models of steel beams, columns, braces, and connections using specialized software like Tekla Structures or AutoCAD.
• Produce Shop Drawings: Generate detailed manufacturing blueprints that show exact dimensions, hole locations, and welding specifications for fabricators.
• Draft Erection Plans: Make clear visual layouts that guide field crews on how to safely lift and install each piece on site.
• Detect Clashes: Find and fix design conflicts between steel frames and other building systems before production begins.
• Generate Data Reports: Output material lists, bolt summaries, and CNC files for automated cutting and drilling.
• Coordinate with Teams: Talk with project managers, engineers, and shop workers to answer questions and resolve Requests for Information (RFIs). 

Qualifications and Skills

• Education: High school diploma or GED required; a degree in drafting, civil engineering, or a related field is often preferred.
• Software Knowledge: Strong skill in 3D modeling tools like Tekla Structures , SDS/2, or AutoCAD.
• Technical Knowledge: Ability to read blueprints and understand industry standards from groups like the AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction).
• Soft Skills: High attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and clear communication. [5]
